The Conventions of a Photo Diary - Part of the Class Room Project

So what are the conventions of a photo diary blog?

Photography is about creativity and a blog about the creative process of photography art should also reflect that creativity. It should be a visual feast.  The details need to be eye catching and dynamic.  But beyond that it should also hold to a few conventions, to begin with you should have some form of structure.  But that can be limiting to the artistic process. So I hold that you really don't want too much structure but enough to guide the reader from one post to the next without loosing their interest.

Also it helps to be consistent so that the reader can always understand what you are doing.  There is a certain amount of comfort in consistency.  While they may love your edgy style of direction, they don't want to have to fight your posts and feel confused while looking for what you are trying to tell them.

Then you really need to determine the style of your photo presentation.  This is after all a photo blog.  The style and direction your photos will take will formulate the entire feel of your blog.  Do you want to do a slide show style presentation that is graphics heavy or do you want to show each photo as a individual piece of art.  For my part I have chosen to display each photo separately so that I can give the viewer a glimpse at the what goes on as a Photography Art Director.

Check out DSLRBlog.  It explains why photographers need blogs.  In today's photo industry a website or blog is of absolute importance.  I hold that the same is true for the Art Director.  It is like a modern portfolio of your work.  It says...."Look at what I did", in the most direct manner.
